RESOLUTION NO. 2024-0807 (Sponsor: Committee on Laws, Rules and Policy Formulation) "A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY GOVERNMENT'S SUPPORT TO THE STAND AND POSITION OF THE SANGGUNIANG PANLALAWIGAN OF NUEVA VIZCAYA, AS ENUNCIATED IN ITS RESOLUTION NO. 2023-4794 WHICH, IN GIST, SOUGHT FOR COLLECTIVE SUPPORT FOR THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT'S EFFORT IN PROTECTING THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA" WHEREAS, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Nueva Vizcaya, through Resolution No. 2023-4794, sought the collective support from various local Sanggunian concerning the Philippine Government's Efforts in protecting the West Philippine Sea; WHEREAS, it is important to note that the West Philippine Sea refers to the portions of the South China Sea which includes the 200 nautical miles Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines as defined and declared by the United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); WHEREAS, notwithstanding such declaration, the West Philippine Sea is currently facing territorial disputes and incursions by foreign entities such as the reported acts of harassment toward the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Resupply Missions and the setting up of a floating barrier near the Scarborough Shoal which poses significant threat to the sovereignty, security and economic interests of the country; WHEREAS, premises considered, there is thus an imperative need to undertake a whole-of-the-nation approach on the matter, hence, the collective support and solidarity among all the Local Sanggunian in the Philippines in protecting our sovereign rights and interests in the West Philippine Sea is urgently necessary; NOW, THEREFORE, on seconded motion of Honorable Ma. Alicia Elena V. Ariosa, be it RESOLVED to express, as this body hereby expresses the City Government's support to the stand and position of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Nueva Vizcaya, as enunciated in its Resolution No. 2023-4794, which, in gist, sought for collective support for the Philippine Government's effort in protecting the West Philippine Sea. RESOLVED FURTHER, to let copies of this Resolution be furnished, Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya; and His Honor, City Mayor Samuel S. Co, for their information, guidance and support.
