RESOLUTION NO. 2020-0640 (Sponsored by: Committee on Commerce, Trade and Industry, Economic Enterprise and Cooperatives) "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HONORABLE CITY MAYOR TO DIRECT THE OFFICE OF THE SENIOR CITIZEN AFFAIRS (OSCA) AND THE CITY SOCIAL WELFARE AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICE (CSWDO) TO CONDUCT INFORMATION AND EDUCATION CAMPAIGN SUCH AS SYMPOSIUMS OR FLYERS TO ALL SENIOR CITIZENS AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (PWD) TO INCLUDE ALL RELATED BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, PHARMACIES AND DRUGSTORES OPERATING IN THE CITY, WITH REFERENCE TO THE GRANT OF DISCOUNT AND PRIVILEGES AS PROVIDED UNDER REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9994" WHEREAS, this august body received complaint on the illegal practices and blatant violation committed by some drugstores and pharmacies operating in the city by not providing the legally mandated discounts and privileges mandated under Republic Act No. 9994 otherwise known as the "Expanded Seniors Citizens Act of 2010;" WHEREAS, given the information provided by the concerned Committee, to which the matter was initially referred, this body, to prevent the recurrence of such malpractice, deems it appropriate for the City Government to initiate necessary information and education campaign relative to the provisions of Republic Act No. 9994 for the benefit of all senior citizens and persons with disability (PWD) to include all pharmacies, drugstores and other related business establishments in the city, thus commissioning the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) as well as the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for the purpose is most proper; NOW, THEREFORE, on seconded motion of Honorable Fernando Y. Pameron, be it RESOLVED to request, as this body hereby requests the Honorable City Mayor to direct the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to conduct information and education campaign such as symposiums or flyers to all senior citizens and Persons with Disability (PWD) to include all related business establishments such as, but not limited to, pharmacies and drugstores operating in the city with reference to the grant of discount and privileges as provided under Republic Act No. 9994. RESOLVED FURTHER, to let copies of this resolution be forwarded to His Honor, City Mayor Samuel S. Co, for his preferential consideration and favorable action; to the Head-Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA); and the City Social Welfare and Development Officer, for their information, guidance and/or appropriate action.
