RESOLUTION NO. 2020-0401 (Co-Sponsors: Committee on Agriculture, Fishery and Agrarian Reform and Committee on Commerce, Trade and Industry) "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HONORABLE CITY MAYOR TO CREATE AND CONVENE THE LOCAL PRICE COORDINATING COUNCIL OF PAGADIAN CITY PURPOSELY TO REGULARLY MONITOR THE ERRATIC AND UNPREDICTABLE PRICE OF FRESH FISH BEING SOLD AT THE AGORA PUBLIC MARKET AND TO COME UP WITH APPROPRIATE RECOMMENDATION, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY (DTI), WITH REFERENCE TO RESOLVING THE PRICE VOLATILITY OF FRESH FISH IN THE CITY" WHEREAS, concern on the unpredictability and instability of the price of variety of fresh fish traded at the Agora Public Market cannot be understated as it is the current foremost outcry of most, if not all, of the resident consumers of the City of Pagadian; WHEREAS, while it may be considered that environmental factors and climate change as well as the law on supply and demand are among the causes to obtain an irregular and fluctuating price of any food commodity, however, there is possibility for any unscrupulous person to take advantage of the situation by engaging in overprice retailing which, if not remedied and prevented, could be detrimental to the consuming public; WHEREAS, given the foregoing predicament, it is therefore necessary for the City Government to institute appropriate measures to ensure the safety and protection of the consuming public such as, but not limited to, the provision of a Suggested Retail Price (SRP), hence, the constitution of the Local Price Coordinating Council of Pagadian City is most proper at this prevailing circumstance; NOW, THEREFORE, on seconded motion of Honorable Ronald Christopher Glenn L. Ariosa, be it RESOLVED to request, as this body hereby requests the Honorable City Mayor to create and convene the Local Price Coordinating Council of Pagadian City purposely to regularly monitor the erratic and unpredictable price of fresh fish being sold at the Agora Public Market and to come up with appropriate recommendation, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), with reference to resolving the price volatility of fresh fish in the city. RESOLVED, FURTHER, to let copies of this Resolution be forwarded to His Honor, City Mayor Samuel S. Co, for his information and immediate favorable consideration. APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.
