RESOLUTION NO. 2019-0290 (Sponsor: Honorable Teodoro M. Quicoy) "A RESOLUTION MANIFESTING THE CITY GOVERNMENT'S STRONG SUPPORT FOR THE CREATION OF A THIRD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT IN THE PROVINCE OF ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR WHICH SHALL INCLUDE THE CITY OF PAGADIAN" WHEREAS, as can be observed, the political structure of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur-where Pagadian City is a component city and the Regional Center of the Zamboanga Peninsula Region-is currently underrepresented in Congress despite having met and complied with all the qualifications set under Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the "Local Government Code of 1991," such as, but not limited to, the land area, income and population; WHEREAS, it has been the long awaited desire of the people of Pagadian City, in particular, and the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, in general, to have an equitable representation in Congress purposely to be able to obtain a bigger share in the national wealth-an opportunity to further implement various infrastructure, social and economic projects for the benefit and general welfare of the public; WHEREAS, for this purpose, this body deems it most fitting to manifest the City Government's strong support for the passage of a law reapportioning the Province of Zamboanga del Sur into three (3) Legislative Districts; NOW, THEREFORE, on seconded motion of Honorable Teodoro M. Quicoy, be it RESOLVED to manifest, as this body hereby manifests the City Government's strong support for the creation of Third Congressional District in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur which shall include the City of Pagadian. RESOLVED FURTHER, to let copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Honorable Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Speaker, House of Representatives, for his information, guidance and/or appropriate action; to Honorable Divina Grace C. Yu and Honorable Leonardo L. Babasa, Jr., Representatives of the First Congressional District and Second Congressional District, respectively; and to Honorable City Mayor Samuel S. Co, for their support and follow-up.
