RESOLUTION NO. 2019-0213 (By Acclamation) "A RESOLUTION CONVEYING THE CITY'S SINCEREST THANKS AND GRATITUDE TO THE LATE FORMER SENATE PRESIDENT AQUILINO "NENE" PIMENTEL, JR., AND ACKNOWLEDGING ALL HIS ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS FOR BEING A BRILLIANT LEGISLATOR, AN ICON OF DEMOCRACY AND THE FATHER OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF CODE" WHEREAS, on 20 October 2019, the entire country was saddened by a nationally televised report on the passing away of former Senate President Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel, Jr., at the age of 85; WHEREAS, while the City Government of Pagadian and the entire populace of the city joins the nation in condoling with the bereaved family and in praying for the eternal repose of his soul, this body, however, finds it best to commemorate his works, achievements and contributions, among which are, his being a human rights advocate and a defender of democracy who never wavered in his principles, ideals and convictions to stand up against the Marcos dictatorship during the martial rule despite the threats and pressures on his own life; WHEREAS, the most significant testament of the work and contribution of Senator Nene-as fondly called by his colleagues, peers and friends-in his capacity as legislator, is that he was instrumental in the formulation and eventual enactment of the Local Government Code thereby entitles him to be proclaimed and called the "Father of the Local Government Code;" WHEREAS, upon his retirement from politics, and though no longer in public office, his services, knowledge and experience, both in law and government, as a lawyer, mayor, legislator and cabinet member, has always been sought for he was considered a great source of wisdom in the realm of public governance and, as a private lawyer, the most notable and remarkable work he accomplished is his contribution as the primary lawyer of the petitioner of the famous "Mandanas Case" which was favorably ruled by the Supreme Court-a victorious legal decision which all Local Government Units be forever grateful to this humble and simple man named-Senator Nene; NOW, THEREFORE, on unanimous motion of all Council Members present, and severally seconded, it was RESOLVED to convey, as this body hereby conveys the city's sincerest thanks and gratitude to the late former Senate President Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel, Jr., and acknowledging all his achievements and contributions for being a brilliant legislator, an icon of democracy and the father of the Local Government of Code. RESOLVED FURTHER, to let a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of the late former Senate President Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel, Jr., through His Honor, Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, for information.
