ORDINANCE NO: 2016-361 (Sponsor: Honorable Mendato B. Marcaban) "AN ORDINANCE MODIFYING THE NAME MAYOR WARLITO E. PULMONES MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF THE SANTIAGO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS PROVIDED IN CITY ORDINANCE NO. 2016-361 TO "WARLITO E. PULMONES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL"" WHEREAS, consistent with the desire of the Barangay Council of Santiago to change the name of Santiago Elementary School in honor of the late City Mayor Warlito E. Pulmones in recognition of his benevolent contribution to the barangay by personally donating the parcel of land presently used as site of the Santiago Elementary School which aspiration was likewise supported by the Pagadian City School Board, this body effected through City Ordinance No. 2016-356 the renaming of the institution; WHEREAS, following a belated consultation with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines on the subject, the NHCP commented that its existing guidelines on the matter be adhered to thus recommended that the honorific title of "Mayor" and the word "memorial" be deleted from the name as well as specifically appending the school's former name of "Santiago Elementary School" under the new official name; WHEREAS, there is now a need to come up with a further legislation to correct City Ordinance No. 2016-356; NOW, THEREFORE, on seconded motion of Honorable Mendato B. Marcaban, be it ordained by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Pagadian City in session assembled that: Section 1. - That the name Mayor Warlito E. Pulmones Memorial Elementary School that was officially bestowed upon the Santiago Elementary School pursuant to City Ordinance No. 2016-356 be modified as "WARLITO E. PULMONES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL." Section 2. - That in giving due recognition to the former school's name of "Santiago Elementary School" that has been sanctified by usage by the residents of the community and as erstwhile carried in the records of the Department of Education (DEPED) the same be necessarily placed under the new official name in any and all school signage that shall be erected and/or installed. Section 3. - That for purposes of reference, all markings as may be installed using the current name of the school shall be done as follows: WARLITO E. PULMONES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (formerly Santiago Elementary School) Section 4. - This Ordinance repeals and replaces City Ordinance No. 2016-356. Section 5. - This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its approval.
